Prancer's Heart Surgery

Organized by Joy Cavett

Please help us with little Prancer
Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago a little sheltie was asleep on our front porch when Mark went out to load his truck for work. Mark tried to get him to "go home", but instead this little dog decided this was his home. Marion was terrified (literally screaming and climbing me or Mark) and Maeve was so excited! (She has wanted another dog since Nate died last October.) That week he came to us was awesome! Prancer played fetch over and over again, he already knew how to "sit", and by the end of the week Marion was holding & petting him on the table at our vet's office!

Fast forward to today. We have been through worms, pneumonia, and now a diagnosis of a life-threatening birth heart defect (PDA-patent ductus arteriosis) that requires surgery for him to survive. I called 2 different surgeons here in Oklahoma. OSU veterinary hospital seems to be the way to go (they can do the surgery without cutting-going through the airway), but the surgery will be $3,000. We have saved $1,000, but he is scheduled for surgery September 8, 2010 and we are unable to come up with the remaining $2,000 by then. We are humbly asking for your help.

Prancer has become our third child and a doggie sibling to the girls. It is sad for us to think that he might not make it because we have already exhausted our financial resources on his prior veterinary care. If you can give, no matter how large or small, we will be incredibly grateful.

With love and gratitude,

Joy, Mark, Maeve, and Marion
